Three different graphic formats are provided in case some computers do not support certain format:
1. SVGstands for "Scalable Vector Graphic" and has the best resolution since it's scalable. When zoomed in, there is no loss of resolution. Text in the graph is searchable and highlightable. In addition, web links can also be embedded in the graphic, for example, clicking on the HMT IDs (highlighted in blue) will lead to the corresponding HMT taxonomy page on HOMD web site.
2. TIFFstands for "Tag Image File Format" and is a common format for exchanging raster graphics (bitmap) images between application programs. It is based on pixels hence if zoomed in enough pixels will show eventually. Although higher image quality (hence large file size), TIFF files can not be viewed differently in the web browser and need to be downloaded first.
3. PNGstands for "Portable Network Graphic" and contains a bitmap of indexed colors. PNG uses lossless compression similar to a copyrighted "Graphic Interchange Format" (GIF) but without the copyright issue.
Thus, SVG format is the best viewing option. Most web browsers software support it, with the exception of the new Microsoft Edge.
